What never goes in a public post
Do not publish a frame number, a chip number, a door code, or a photograph in which a stranger's face or a flat number is legible. Every one of these has appeared on the board at some point, usually with good intentions, and each of them makes it easier for the wrong person to claim the thing convincingly. Details that prove ownership should be held back precisely so they can prove it.
Equally, do not post accusations. A thread that names a suspected person, even carefully, will be removed without discussion, and the moderator will not debate the merits of the case in public. If a crime has occurred, it belongs to the police, and the board's job is limited to helping a nervous cat out of a cellar and a bicycle back to its stand. That limit is not modesty. It is the only version of this board that anybody would want to live above.
